Meet Your Expert Programme Leader

Professor Alan Patching is no stranger to the project management industry in the Middle East. For over a decade he has instructed Masters Certificate courses from leading universities and delivered speeches for the Project Management Institute (PMI), not to mention advising on a wide range of project activities.

Alan’s project experience extends to 8 billion dollars (AUD) across a variety of projects with an emphasis on property, construction and infrastructure, but also including retail, aviation, publishing and IT. Alan is regarded as one of Australia’s leading project directors and development managers.

Alan believes there are numerous project managers with little commercial knowledge and a like number of commercial managers with little technical project experience. His own career has shown that the world is the oyster for anyone who understands and can manage both the technical and commercial aspects of projects – from the very early stages of project concept until the actual sale or operation launch of the project on completion.

It is this combination of technical and commercial knowledge that gained Alan Patching the position as National Projects Director in charge of the Australian property and construction operations for a large Japanese firm. In this role he was responsible for all aspects of design, financing, delivery and leasing/sale of a portfolio valued at some 43 billion (AUD) in the early 1990s.

Alan is best known as CEO of the entity which owned Sydney’s Olympic Stadium and as the stadium Project Director. He was also Project Director for the $280 million redevelopment of Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane for the 2003 Rugby World Cup. Alan is also regarded as an expert negotiator and in the early 90s negotiated Australia’s largest ever property deal (to that time) valued at $1.4 billion and its largest commercial lease.

Alan is the author of a number of books and audio albums and has shared the international speaking platform with Tom Peters, Dr Denis Waitley and Zig Zigler.
